BENEFITS OF THE CROSS

Key Verse: But  he was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our inequities; The chastisement of our peace was upon him and with stripes from lashes in his body we are healed ( Isiah 53:5 ) Friends and brethren … many people don’t have a clear understanding about the gifts of God given to men and for this reason, I would like to emphasize a more detailed study of the benefits that God prepared for his people. If it is true in your heart that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and saviour, we are rewarded with benefits. What is  meant about benefits of the cross are those gifts which Jesus Christ purchased for you and me when he died on the cross of calvary. The benefits of the cross are these:

1. Forgiveness of our sins and eternal life; “Wounded for our transgressions.”

2. Deliverance from inbred inequities-“Bruised for our inequities.”

3. Peace for the mind and heart-“The chasticement of our peace.”

4. Healing for the Body- “With his stripes we are healed.”

*Jesus Christ is wounded for our sins, because the law of God demanded the shedding of blood in order to forgive man’s sin.  In Hebrew 9:22, it says “and almost all things are by the law purged with blood and without shedding of blood  is no remission. So Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for the sins of mankind ; He took our place before God and took the punishment for our sins ( 1 Peter2:24 )

l  What we mean about forgiveness of sins and eternal life is that forgiveness comes when the soul is cleansed by the bood of Jesus Christ of all his mistakes, offenses and transgressions against God. While Eternal Life is to live forever for it is the gift of God to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as what it says in John 5:24 “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life…”

l  Our sins can be forgiven and forgotten by God when we confess our sins to Jesus Christ and ask his forgiveness for them – (1 John 1: 9 “He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

l  The are 2 ways to know that our sins are forgiven:

l  a.) The word of God says they are forgiven.(1 John 1:9)

l  b.) The spirit of God witnesses in our hearts that we have repented our sins and accepted Jesus Christ as our personal saviour, God sends the spirit of the son into our hearts as a witness that we are now his children. God’s spirit causes our spirit to cry “Abba Father” (connoting an affectionate term) as a witness that we are now his. As what the Bible says in Mark 14:36 “ And he said Abba Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.”

I would like to point out the fact that this experience comes after faith, not before. Many people look for the testimony of God’s written word on the Bible. This is an inversion of God’s order. TRUST IN … RELY UPON…BELIEVE IN …THE BARE WORD OF GOD. John1:12says “ But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

l  Brethren, I wish to emphasize to you the simple logical formula for obtaining spiritual things. First, a person must hear the facts. The facts then produce Faith in the mind of the listener. Then, the faith produces the feelings. This is the formula for obtaining forgiveness, healing or any other blessings from the word. Lets see what the bible says on this in Romans 10:17 “ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

REMEMBER: FACTS + FAITH = FEELING.( PLS DO NOT REVERSE THE FORMULA)
